Frame Drums

Arabian, Asian, Indian and Irish frame drums serve as the traditional examples for our drums. They are covered with natural goat skin and are characterised by sounds in the upper tone levels. The frame is made of multi-layered Beechwood. Our frame drums reward the player with warm and rich basses when played in a traditional manner. Striking the drum on its frame underscores the unbelievable dynamics of these instruments with high and singing tones.

Riqq von Schlagwerk

RT RIQ Riqq

Goat skin, 5 jingle pairs, 1 single jingle, Ø 25 cm /approx.10“

The Schlagwerk Riqq, based on the Arabian riqq, is a tunable frame drum that provides a great variety of sound and glissando possibilities due to its special jingle combination. The two gaps in the frame guarantee a firm grip and optimal handling of the riqq.

Materials:
The frame is made of 6-ply glued Beechwood,
frame height 62 mm,
goat skin,
Ø 25 cm with 10 (!) tuning screws integrated into
the frame.
A tuning key is included.

Tamburello

RT TAM Tamburello

Goat skin, 14 jingle pairs, Ø 30 cm / approx. 12“

he components of this tamburello may give you an idea of its full sound impact: 6-ply glued Beechwood frame with a height of 75mm and 8 integrated tuning screws, high-quality goat skin and a total of 14 jingle pairs (7 double sets). The grip hole in the frame guarantees comfortable handling. Of course, a tuning key is included.

RT DEF Def

Goat skin, extra light-weight frame drum,
Ø 40 cm / approx. 16“

Schlagwerk has expanded its range of frame drums with the addition of the new Def. The construction of the frame (6-ply glued Beechwood, 85 mm in height) reduces the weight noticeably. Not only does this make for better handling, but also for a much more pronounced sustain.

Rahmentrommel Bendir mit Schnarreffekt

RT BEN Bendir

Goat skin, with snare strings,
Ø 40 cm/ approx. 16“

The Bendir is an especially popular frame drum used in oriental music. The construction of the frame is similar to the Def, but a grip hole in the cross support and snare strings attached to the skin inside the drum make all the difference. The typical Bendirlike snare effect is produced by the four strings.

RT FHD Freehand Drum

Double-layered goat skin, Ø 40 cm/ approx. 16“

The double skin technique is a rarely used option in the construction of natural skin frame drums. The result is quite interesting: the double-layered skin produces very controlled and distinctive tones, inviting the player to experiment with differentiating tensions. The Freehand Drum can be played with the drum clamped between the legs.

Circle Drums & more

The Circle Drum is a great sounding, easy to play frame drum with a natural skin head. Because of the light-weight construction: Ø 50 cm = 700 g, Ø 45 cm = 600 g, Ø 40 cm = 500 g, Ø 35 cm = 300 g it‘s especially good for use in Drum Circles or playing for a long time with one hand! The multiply Beechwood frame is covered with a tensioned, sturdy goat skin. The crossed belts help maintain light and sure handling.

Ghanaische Basstrommel

GO 500 Gomé-Bass tunable

48 x 48 x 37 cm

The Gomé-Bass is, without exaggeration, one of the most unusual and original West African musical instruments. The Schlagwerk Gomé is modelled on the Ghanaian bass drum, which provides the rhythmic basis for almost all music styles of the fishermen of the Ga tribe. This tunable drum can be played with hands or soft mallets while sitting on it with the skin facing front. The pitch can be modified, respectively tuned higher, to create djembé-like sounds.
